The allocation and placement of each piece of goods on board the ship are shown on the shipping plan. The plan is often created using the “deck officers’” notebooks, with a reasonable duplicate being created prior to leaving the last port of loading. This makes it possible to make copies of the plan before the ship sets sail. To enable the booking and reservation of labor, when necessary, the copies are sent to representatives at ports of discharge.
